Bridge Club

The Probus Bridge Club of Kingsway-Islington is continuing with a new format.

Monday Bridge Club will continue at Lezlie Cullen’s home at 8 Cranleigh Court from
12:00 to 3:00 p.m. (subject to adequate numbers).  Light refreshments are served at a cost of $15.  The afternoon play includes a lesson from Lezlie followed by duplicate bridge play with two experienced players on hand to provide advice.  If there is a change Sharon Taylor will let you know.  So please let Sharon sharon.skoryk2025@gmail.com know if you plan on attending Monday.  Lezlie would very much appreciate knowing by Sunday morning, at the latest, to be able to plan.

Wednesday Bridge Club

Starting Wednesday, January 21, and all Wednesdays following, Wednesday Bridge will be going back to the Etobicoke Olympium.  Cost is $10 and includes an optional lesson starting at 11:30am and snacks.  The game will start at 12:00pm and goes to 3:00 p.m.  There is lots of free parking.  Most of the time, the Club Director Steve Overholt will find a partner for those that do not have a partner.

Previous Meeting of the Bridge Club

In June, there were 9 members again at Probus Bridge Club meeting.

In May, there were 9 members at Probus Bridge Club meeting, with more normal attendance returning.

At the April meeting, there were a total of 6 players. Two members played with Etobicoke Probus bridge group so the all attendees were able to play.

At the March meeting, there were 10 people at bridge. Members played this at 3 tables with the dummy bidding for the missing people to make complete tables. This worked out well as there was a lot of rotation with everyone getting to play with everyone else.

In the February 2025, despite a few of the usual players traveling at that time, the Bridge Club still had three tables of Bridge.  Montserrat helped the group celebrate Valentine’s day with coffee and Valentine cookies 💗 from the Danish Bakery, which added to the fun of the meeting.

Benefits of belonging to the Bridge Club

The benefits of belonging to the Bridge Club are that it allows members to make new friends and enjoy themselves at social gatherings. While members of the Club enjoy playing bridge, they are also improving their game in a non-threatening environment. Bridge is also an excellent way to improve your memory, decision making, strategy formation and problem-solving abilities.

Our Members

There are 15 – 20 experienced players who belong to the Bridge Club now, with two tables of four people normally playing. All Probus Members are welcome.

On-line Bridge

For those Probus members that are inexperienced bridge players and need practice, or if you prefer to play on-line bridge, Bridge Base Online or BBO is an alternative. Inexperienced members can use the Solitaire option, while more experienced Bridge Players can play socially, participate in American Contract Bridge League games, or participate in tournaments.

All games with the Etobicoke Bridge Centre are now on-line on BBO. If you need further information, contact Martin Hunter martinhunter@rogers.com. Click on the post below, called The Bridge Club #1 for more detailed information.
