Club History

The Kingsway/Islington Probus Club was sponsored and supported in its formation in September 2007 by the Probus Club of Etobicoke, whose membership had reached capacity. Interest in the new club exceeded all expectations. At the inaugural organizational meeting, 278 people joined immediately, with an additional 32 placed on a waiting list. Due to fire regulations limiting the meeting room at the Islington Golf and Country Club to 250 attendees, membership was closed and allowed to gradually decrease through normal attrition. Individuals on the waiting list were invited to join as spaces became available.

The strong appeal of Probus was aptly summarized at the time: it offers a welcoming social environment free from the obligations of service clubs, with minimal cost and no requirement for ongoing responsibilities—ideal for those who wish to stay engaged, meet new people, and enjoy friendships.

In January 2023, the club relocated its monthly meetings to the Lambton Golf and Country Club, which remains our current venue, however, renovation at the Golf Club has meant that we have temporarily relocated to Kingsway Lambton United Church at 85 The Kingsway.

Today, our membership cap of 250 continues and we maintain a waiting list of approximately 125 individuals. The club welcomes both men and women. Annual dues are currently $85, with a one-time $25 fee for a name badge.
