May 2025 Walk

By James Rayner

A recent walk on May 8th, took us through the classy neighbourhoods of Moore Park and Rosedale. We travelled to the St. Clair subway station and walked east along St. Clair to Inglewood Drive.  On the way, we passed over the great bridge on St. Clair that crosses the picturesquely named Mud Creek Valley.

At the corner of Inglewood stands a beautiful old mansion called “Villa St. Clair”.

Continuing along Inglewood, we delighted in seeing some of the blooming trees:  magnificent magnolias and some of the rare tulip trees.

When we arrived at McLennan Ave., we turned south toward Rosedale.  At this point the CP main line railway divides the two communities.  They are joined by a pedestrian-only walkway that slopes over the tracks and down toward Rosedale.  Here is a photo of the group on the bridge.

The first street that a walker comes to is Summerhill Ave., home to several small service businesses, including the ever-so-chi-chi  Summerhill Market.

Walking down Glen Road, Elva found a street named after her.

We enjoyed many of the spring gardens.  Here is one:

The Glen Road bridge passed over the same trail we had seen at St. Clair.  This is a walk that I hope to take in the summer.

Gardening crews were busy clearing out the ravines as far as the property lines.  Imagine having a back yard like this!

To end the walk, we boarded the subway at Sherbourne Station and rode the rails home.
