November 26, 2024 Meeting Summary by Nancy McFadden
Christine Ibbotson was the presenter for our November 26th meeting. She is the person behind the Canadian “Ask The Money Lady” brand. Chris discussed Longevity & How to Create a Lifelong Income in Retirement through the use of Life Annuities for those who are asset rich and cash poor.

Christine Ibbbotson, ‘the Money Lady’ is a licensed financial advisor and columnist. She opened with a little perspective: there are about 3 times as many seniors over 85 now as there were in 1985. A similar rate of growth is expected over the next 30 years bringing the total to an estimated 4.3 million. As we live longer, how can we live well?
Christine drew from Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long lIfe. A healthy diet, socializing every day, exercise, limiting stress and plenty of sleep (10-12 hours for Super Seniors) help to extend life. A happy life is enhanced by randomness or surprises, adventure, self discovery and certainty. She then focused on the financial certainty that is needed if your life is possibly 20 years longer than you may have once expected.
Christine suggests annuities as an instrument that will guarantee your required revenue stream for years ahead. This product can help you achieve certainty in a range of financial situations. This is not the place for any detailed financial advice but if you want to learn more, you may want to procure one of her books or ask ‘The Money Lady.’
