On Thursday, May 2nd, 2024, 11 members of the Wine Tasting Club attended the Wine Tasting at Mary Mulligan’s home. We had a fun afternoon tasting and reviewing wines from different countries. The two wines preferred by the group were one white and one red. These are reviewed below.
Italy (Terre Di Chieti Abruzzo), Pecornio, Latte Miele, 2023

This wine from Pecorino is made In Veneto, Italy and is yellow in colour with green reflections. The bouquet is immediate, with intense impressions of white and exotic fruit and elegant jasmine aromas. Floral and fruity notes are well balanced on the palate with good acidity and a long persistent finish. Enjoy with vegetable, fish and white meat dishes or salty pecorino cheese. The wine has:
- Alcohol/Vol 13%
- Sugar Content 4 g/L
- Price: $14.00
If you haven’t heard of Pecorino, then you’re truly missing out. A grape that is indigenous to Italy, the profile of Pecorino is a cross between Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc. Offering both fresh, white floral and citrus qualities it is a graceful wine that will swoon any wine lover. When it comes to pairing it can easily accent a green salad or can also stand up to roast chicken and fish. A definite must-try!
The Pecorino grape, not to be confused with the cheese of the same name, and is planted mainly in Italy’s central Abruzzo and Marche regions.

Chile, Concha e Toro, Frontera, After Midnight, 2023

The grapes for After Midnight are harvested in the cool of the evening. This preserves the freshness and flavours of the fruit before the grapes are crushed. Enjoy aromas and flavours of black cherry, raspberries and vanilla. As well as Dark Fruit flavours, it is descirbed as having a Coffee and Nutty flavour. The balanced structure is smooth and supple.
What kind of wine is Frontera after midnight?
