At the Wine Club tasting of October 5, 2023 at Ruth Johnson’s home, there were two wines sipped that appealed the most to the group. The first was a white wine, while the second was a red wine.
Chile, Cono Sur Vineyards – Viognier, 2022

Cono Sur is a white wine produced and bottled in Chili and the varietal is Viognier. Cono Sur Vineyards & Winery was founded in 1993 and is from the Rapel Valley region in Chile’s Central Valley made up of the Colchagua and Cachapoal Valleys.
It is a pale gold colour with aromas of melon, peach and orange blossoms and flavours of grapefruit, peach, green apple and pineapple.
It is a medium bodied wine with great acidity.
It is a good sipping wine and pairs well with many foods, such as grilled vegetables, roast chicken, pork and Asian cuisine.
Alcohol content is 13.5%, sugar content is 7g/L, year 2022, price was $13.95
All wine tasters except one would buy this wine.
California, McManis Family Vineyards – Cabernet Sauvignon, 2021

Five generations of family farmers have strived to grow quality grapes with outstanding depth. This wine is produced and bottled by the McManis family in Ripon, California, (central California).The varietal is Cabernet Sauvignon.
It has aromas of ripe blackberry and flavours of black cherry, chocolate, prune, and cedar. It is medium to full-bodied.
This wine pairs well with steak, braising ribs and roasts.
Alcohol content is 13.5%, sugar content is 9g/L, year is 2021, price was $21.95.
Most of the wine tasters would buy this wine. This wine according to the LCBO is one of the best selling wines in Ontario.
