The Wine Tasting Group met at Ruth Warren’s home on January 5th. The first three wines were recommended by one of the staff at the LCBO store at Royal York and Bloor.
Lindeman’s Winery – Pinot Grigio, 2022

The first wine we tasted was an Australian wine from the Lindeman’s Winery. That winery was established in 1842. This 2022 Pinot Grigio has a 4.7 rating out of 5, and a 12% alcohol content. It has a pale straw colour with soft fresh fruit aromas. It is medium bodied. The price was $10.95 on sale. Half the group said they would buy it and half said they might buy it.
Collavini Winery – Pinot Grigio, 2021

The second wine an Italian dry 2021 white wine from the Collavini winery which was established in 1896 in the north of Italy. It had aromas of lemon, pear and apple, the flavours were apricot, grapefruit and a hint of honey. The alcohol content was 12.5%. The price was $13.10. Most of the group thought they would not buy this wine.
Wolf Blass, Yellow Label – Cabernet Sauvignon

The third was was highly thought of by the LCBO staffer, but most people in the Club thought it was a very heavy, strong wine with 14.5% alcohol content. It was from the Wolf Blass winery in Southern Australia. The price was $14.95. It was a red wine, a Cabernet Sauvignon from the Wolf Blass (Yellow Label). The wine had aromas of blackcurrant, eucalyptus, oak and spice. It was very full-bodied. It tasted musky. This wine would be suitable with a hearty meal, such as a steak, roast beef or a beef stew. Most of the group would not buy it.
Sandbanks Winery – Baco Noir

The fourth wine was a Baco Noir from the Sandbanks winery, located in Prince Edward County. The winery’s motto is that wines are meant to be shared in harmony with family and friends. The wine is a deep red colour with aromas of vanilla. The price was $13.95 with an alcohol content of 12.5% The group liked it.
