Through the Grapevine #26

This month we met at Jennifer Robert’s home to taste her selection of Canadian wines.   At our wine tasting events, we sample two white and two red wines and ask the tasters which wine they would either buy, might buy, or would not buy.  The wines on our buy list are:

The two white wines we tasted were Riesling.  There was quite a difference in taste.

Pelee Island Winery – Lighthouse Riesling

The one that most people would buy is Pelee Island Lighthouse Riesling.  It is a VQA wine.  Alcohol content is12.5 %.  Price is $13.95.

The LCBO describes it as “Pale straw in colour, fragrant with plenty of fresh orchard fruit aromas.  Refreshing with a good balance of acidity and sweetness.  Great with a variety of appetizers, cheeses and white meat.”

Food Pairings are appetizers, seafood, grilled asparagus with roasted potatoes and white meats. Perfect with cheese plates.

Pelee Island Winery – Lighthouse Cabernet Franc

The most liked red wine was also from Pelee Island.  It was a Cabernet Franc with an alcohol content of 12.7% costing $13.95.

The LCBO describes it as “Medium ruby/violet colour; aromas of black plum, chocolate, cassis, cedar and vanilla, medium bodied and a fresh finish.”

Food Pairings are creamy lamb masala, pork loin steaks in shallot and mushroom gravy, grilled flank steak skewers with dried tomato pesto or vegan meatballs with spaghetti. Appetizers include smooth pâté and most hard cheeses.
