The wine club had planned to present our personal favourite wines for discussion at our February meeting. Although we had an interesting variety of wines on display, we discovered through two of our members that there is a very welcome way to send a gift to those of us who enjoy a glass of wine and do not need a new sweater for Christmas. Something to tell your children the next time they ask you what you need or would like for a special occasion.
A Unique But Very Practical Gift Suggestion
Reviewed by Pat and Murray Wood
Many of us are at the stage where gifts, while always nice to receive, are best if they are consumable. This past Christmas our family found a great solution. Through a group called Amazing Clubs they discovered the One of the Month Club called “Bunch of Grapes”.
This group specialize in wines from small wine makers collections, not available though the LCBO. During the last week of the month, for whichever time period is selected, you receive a package, delivered by Amazon, of two wines. It is possible when ordering to state your preference between, white or red or one of each.
At the end of January, we were delighted to receive our first offering. We have sampled a lovely Chenin Blanc from the Beaumont Family Wines located in South Africa, and would definitely recommend it. We are looking forward to trying our second selection, La Source Sauvignon which comes from Domaine Robert Vic, located in Languedoc, France. It will be interesting to see what our February selections will be. More information on this organization can be found on their website at:
Another Perspective on Amazing Clubs

What do you get someone who doesn’t really need anything?
My niece found this group called Amazing Clubs. Through them, I got a gift that keeps on giving. Every three months (with other options available), I have a delivery of two bottles of wine.
Last year I received one white and one red. This year I am getting two whites. They are delivered to my door so there is no effort there. Along with the wine, there is a sheet with a description of the wine and a history of the winery.
The wines come from all over the world and, for the most part, are very drinkable. Unfortunately, you cannot buy them in the LCBO.
Amazing Clubs has gifts that deal with more than wine: these include cheese, beer, coffee, cookies, pasta, and on and on.
Wine Facts
The newsletter that accompanied the wines from Amazing Clubs gives some interesting facts as well.
Did You Know?
A decanter is used mainly to remove sediment from older red wines. Also, it can be used to open up young red wines. Otherwise, wine will “breathe” enough in your glass and decanting is not necessary.
The world’s oldest existing bottle of wine dates back to A.D. 325 and was found near the town of Speyer, Germany, inside one of two Roman sarcophaguses.
Next month we will discover what is in our own backyard….Ontario wines.
