Investment Club News #11

The Investment Club met on February 8, 2022 to discuss our portfolio as well as whether or not this is the time to buy into the market considering how volatile it has been recently.  It was a good turnout and wonderful to see everyone again.   We certainly have some good discussions at our meetings.

Tim led us through his presentation of the list of starter companies that he shared with us last month which are:

Canadian Stocks

  • Brookfield Asset Management (TSX:BAM.A)(NYSE:BAM)
  • Constellation Software (TSX:CSU)

U.S. Stocks

  • Autodesk (NASDAQ:ADSK)
  • Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.B)
  • Mercadolibre (NASDAQ:MELI)
  • NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA)
  • PayPal (NASDAQ:PYPL)

Tim’s presentation gave us the background of each of these companies and explained the Advantages and Disadvantages of holding a position in them.

DECISIONS MADE TODAY

Cash – Hold our cash position at $94,000 (14% of our portfolio) for future opportunities.  In order to buy more stock we must be prepared to sell something.

Cash – Since we were not comfortable with selling any holdings today, we are using cash for our purchases and will address selling something next month to replenish our cash position.

TO DO

Buy and Watch

  • 30 shares of Berkshire Hathaway B at $321.44, for a total cost in CAD of $11,582.
  • 30 shares of Nvidia at $251.08, for a total cost in CAD of $9,049.

Total cost is $20,631.

We expect/hope that these companies will grow and enhance our portfolio.

Review Portfolio for Possible Sells

Review our portfolio to identify what we would like to sell next month keeping in mind that some companies are interest rate sensitive and will be affected by rising interest rates.

Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 8th at 2:00 pm via Zoom.
