Through the Grape Vine #5

The wine tasting club continues to meet on the first Thursday afternoon of each month. This month we would like to share our findings on two New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc wines which we would like to recommend.

Eradus Sauvignon Blanc Pat and Murray Wood

Our choice for the September Probus Wine Club virtual meeting was Eradus. This is a delightful Sauvignon Blanc from the Awatere Valley area of New Zealand. It is rated as 93+/100. It is a dry white with 13.5% alcohol. In a valley forged by fault lines, carved by winds, scorched by sun and cooled by the ocean, Eradus wines are the essence of the Awatere Valley. This wine retails for $19.95 at the LCBO and we highly recommend it.

Te Henga 2019 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 13% alcohol $12.95 Mary Mulligan

New Zealand‘s natural beauty is at its most inspiring at Te Hanga, a wild iron sand surf beach on Auckland‘s West Coast. Rugged, windswept and shaped by the elements over time, it‘s the Babich family‘s inspiration for this distinctive wine. Close to their Auckland winery, Te Henga is a popular summer destination for the Babich family who, as New Zealand‘s most experienced family owned winery, are proud producers of this wine.

Uplifting citrus and floral aromas lead to a palate that is clean and rich, with fresh gooseberry notes and a distinctive flinty, mineral character. Enjoy this wine on its own or with a variety of dishes, especially seafood and chicken.

New Zealand’s Marlborough region burst on the wine scene in the 1980s with this vibrant style of sauvignon blanc. Te Henga follows suit with intense aromas and flavours of lime blossoms, kiwi, herbs and a grapefruit hint ending with a lifted, refreshing finish. Enjoy with cedar-planked salmon, mussels or grilled vegetables.
