September 2020 Edition by Linda Hasler
At our September 15th meeting, we agreed on the following:
One Portfolio – We agreed that we would amalgamate Team A and Team B’s portfolios. The final results of each of the two teams portfolios are available below in the Club Posts section in the file called Team Summaries Comparisons Sept 20. We discussed multiple reasons why this is a good idea and everyone is interested in the challenges ahead over the next season. The results of this consolidation are shown in the Club Post section in the file called Portfolio Summary Consolidation to Sept. 20th.
Our new combined portfolio of 44 holdings will be $600,189.00 with $68,916.00 cash. We have to establish a goal regarding the size/total number of our holdings and the amount invested in each. Our goal is to slim it down which will give us quite a bit of research and discussion over the coming months. The results from the consolidation is analyzed by sector in the Club Post Section in the document called Investment by Sector as of September 20th.
We have three duplicate holdings in the original portfolios. Combined they amount to Shopify $107,279; TD Bank $18,607; and Loblaws $10,786. Do we buy/hold/sell? An example of some of the considerations for Shopify are shown in the Club Posts section that discusses why one analyst thinks that Shopify Is An Exceptional Company But Its Stock Is Risky.
We have some similar holdings, Visa, Mastercard, Emera, Fortis and probably many others to be determined.
Some of the factors we discussed today for consideration going forward are:
- gold/silver
- interest rates
- fixed income
- cash reserve
- risk
These factors will be discussed in future meetings.
